I absolutely love the idea of blogger challenges! Not only does it give me a little structure to be creative around… but I love watching others interpret the same challenge I’m working on. This one was pure pleasure as I sifted through some of my favorite things — many of which haven’t seen the light of day in a while. While this is a bit of a departure from my more typical styles, it reminded me of one of the amazing things about SL — the ability to create interesting and unique looks that express something about you. The people you meet may or may not really understand how to interpret your expression, but they will often appreciate your artistry in creating an avatar with a style. I actually purchased most of these pieces for myself, and they have clearly spoken to the “unusual” inside of me — and is ...

I started blogging in November 2007, just a mere few days after I rezzed in Second Life. If you are interested in a trip down memory lane… you can start here. If nothing else, it might serve as a reminder that we all started somewhere, and there was a learning curve.
My blog has definitely changed bit by bit over time — I learned more, I observed more, and I became a little more technologically proficient. Perhaps most importantly, I became part of a community that can be extraordinarily helpful, with someone always willing to answer questions, provide tutorials, and even give away their best blogging secrets. The generosity of the fashion blogging community is often overwhelming. I hope I’ve been able to put some of that wealth to good use.
As I approach the beginning of my fourth year as a Second Life blogger, I would like to ...

Sometimes, life happens to you when you least expect it. Eight months ago, I began a new and different adventure in my Second Life that would turn out to have completely unexpected results. I am moved to share a bit of that story with you now. Let me start with an excerpt from something that I wrote back then:
Sometimes, the smallest thing will get an idea rolling around in my head … and if it rolls around long enough and vigorously enough, it eventually finds its way out. That is exactly what happened to me when I read a recent blog post from Lizzie Lexington about her stint as an SL escort.
I’m intrigued by the economics of a career in one of the major industries in SL, and by the business and personal skills it takes to be successful in the sex trade. I have more than a ... (Read more at the Source)

I have had a rough two weeks! No trauma … just the sustained pressure of busy-ness as summer ends, and we slowly shift around to the fall season. I have looked forward to drawing a breath this weekend, and blogging again! This look has been kicking around in my inventory for quite some time now. No real newness to feature here, but I enjoyed how the photo came out — very evocative for me.
As many of you may know — I’ve been working diligently on clearing out my inventory a bit. One of the things I did when taking this picture was to retire all my ETD hair. I wear one of my favorite styles here as a tribute. I couldn’t bring myself to actually delete them, but I did pack them away — reducing my inventory ...

New releases from Tuli are always like Christmas… and this one is an especially exciting event for me — the release of the new Audrey skin. Although I will admit that almost every release is my new favorite — this is really a huge favorite of mine already, and I’m pleased to get a chance to show it to you. Audrey is a gorgeous face anyway — but add freckles, and the new copper brows, and its a huge hit with me. Audrey also includes some wonderful lipsticks on the Viewer Two tattoo layer. I’m actually not so much a big lipstick girl — I’m more interested in a variety of eye makeup myself — but I’m hugely interested to see how makeup layers are starting to be used in SL. Put that together with the ability to stack layers, and we have some really interesting possibilities for even more ...

This is a super-quickie post to let you know about a deal I thought some of you might be interested in! +DV8+ has released their new Cybermancer boots, and are having a 50% off sale on them for 24 hrs. Sadly — I don’t know when the 24 hrs. started — so just hurry on over and check them out. These latex boots have a terrific shiny-ness to them… and come in a whole slew of colors. AND — in each pack you get two versions of the boot — the color with black accents, and black with the color accents — how cool is that?? AND that’s not all! You can find versions of these boots in the RiotVend, as well as a the current group gift, and a pick reward. Out of the box, these boots were a little big for me (sized for a man, i ...

OK — I am going to choose a favorite in this one — the little table vignette is just the kind of thing I go crazy for. I love all the elements, and the colors — and it almost goes without saying that anything from Second Spaces is well-crafted. Plus — the artful decoration is already all put together for you — you can just put the whole thing down in one swoop! The glass lamp is from a new-to-me store, Melia … and is really lovely. There are a few other nice pieces in that gift that didn’t make it into my pictures, but are out in my house. And, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my ubiquitous potted Yucca from blonde. I have a completely black thumb in real life … but in SL, a room isn’t complete without ...

*This hunt had zero impact on my inventory clean up project — I sent an alt on the hunt!
Keep your fingers crossed! If I did this right, I should now be feeding into the Home & Garden SL Feed~
I know you’ve all seen tons of stuff already from the SL House & Garden Hunt. But — I had to stick some of my photos in as well… and to tell you that this is THE most awesome hunt I think I’ve ever done — seriously. I don’t think there was any gift on this hunt I didn’t enjoy, and the superior quality of so many of them just astounded me. Not only do I now have skyboxes, houses, and the things to decorate them with — I have a loooong shopping list from all the tremendous ...

This is a pretty eclectic mix that evolved, as most of my looks do, from trying on this piece and that piece until a theme, or a color scheme begins to emerge. This started as a themed outfit with the nautical shorts from StoRin, but eventually evolved into a color-scheme outfit that is a little quirky, but I liked it a lot — and it gave me an excuse to wear some other great pieces that have been kicking around my inventory, including the bag from Boom, and the wonderful argyle corset from Dreams. I had to dig really deep into my closet for the argyle shoes from Dilly Dolls, and the knee highs from Corduroy…. but I love the unexpectedness of them in this mix.

August 1 is kind of a time marker in my life. In my world, summer is over (except for the beastly heat). Vacations and conferences are over, summer projects are being finalized, and preparations for the new school year are ramping up. And, as much as I enjoy the flexibility and relaxed routines summer has at my house, I really look forward to fitting myself back into the normal structure I operate with most of the year. Yes — I’m very much a creature of habit
In the same way I always looked forward to buying new school supplies, and getting my class schedule… I look forward to newness on the grid, and a more regular blogging schedule. I have some new ideas I want to work on this fall, and maybe even a little surprise or two

I’m getting ready to go on vacation in a couple of days, and although I am not looking forward to being away from my SL love and friends … it will be some good family time … or at least family time. Anyway — I couldn’t leave without getting another post up with one of my favorite types of looks, with one of my new favorite designers. This look started with the terrific fantasy-style shirt from Haven Designs, and everything came together around it. I have to say I’m loving the straight, layered hair designs that Truth has been doing lately … they are so completely wearable in-world. I’m also sporting the latest Gina skin from Tuli (and I think still available at The ...

Today’s look is a mix of new and old pleasures unearthed from my inventory … and exactly the kind of casual look I could wear every day — in RL or on the grid. This one is definitely going into my outfit folder~
First — Dark Mouse! I love Mouse, I love her store, I love her group… and it’s my pleasure to blog several of her diverse pieces here. Mouse has a way of making pieces that just become part of the fabric of your looks day after day… I’ve worn many of the pieces again and again. I’ll bet you all thought I got swallowed up by my inventory, didn’t you?? I imagine that black hole could suck me in if I opened the door too wide … but this time it was mostly just the black hole called Real Life. I’ve been rummaging around in my closet today, and have a mix of some old and some new — things I enjoy. One of the dangers of putting together a look from your inventory is that some of the exact pieces may not be available to you. I will beg your forgiveness in advance. However… I hope that the looks will just inspire you to seek out newness, and a make a look your own!

Today’s look is about summer polish, and these amazing capri pants from Haven Designs. As soon as I saw them… with their wonderfully drawn texture, and cute flare at the bottom, I had to have them. [warning: skip to the next paragraph if you are just interested in the fabulous clothes and accessories!] Most of us know how very easy it is to accumulate larger and larger and LARGER inventories over time. The disciplined ones among us (yeah — I’m looking at you, Chic) somehow manage to edit objectively and regularly and keep things organized and streamlined. The rest of us still have freebies from our noob days (which we wouldn’t be caught dead in, but still haven’t thrown out), hunt gifts from Christmas three years ago that we haven’t opened, and thousands of just-in-case fun stuff. OK — maybe its just me, but here I am hovering dangerously close to 50K in inventory [there -- I said it!], and find myself in a closet crisis! I wouldn’t worry so much about it if it didn’t ...

I managed to squeeze in a quick shopping trip this morning before work, just to actually give you a timely tip on 25L Tuesday! This lovely pendant I’m wearing is the offering TODAY from Trident. For 25L you get a male and female version of this pendant — each fitted for both chest and spine attachment points (thank you!!). Just walking into Trident makes me feel steeped in history … but I can easily see many of their pieces, including this one, worked into a SL street look. Pick this pendant up for 25L TODAY ONLY.

I’ve talked previously about some of my explorations into alternative fashions, including the 25L Tuesdays round of shopping. The event has really grown, and regularly includes 20 or more stores. Its an eclectic mix, and not everything will be something I need, but I’ve enjoyed getting acquainted with a whole range of new stores and sims … and picked up a few bargains along the way. During last week’s round, I acquired this lovely dress from Angelwing. Altho’ it isn’t available for 25L any longer, you can still get it for a very reasonable price, and in a variety of colors. I’ve been very pleased with all of the pieces I’ve gotten here. The textures are nicely done, and the craftsmanship is quite lovely. This piece could be used in several different roleplay environments.

Today’s outfit started out with this terrific outfit from Immerschoen. Immerschoen is a store I’ve only recently discovered for myself, but I know its been around for awhile. The store has a large inventory of what I would consider casual wear and club wear … with lots of separates that are great for mixing and matching. I’ve been quite impressed by the quality of the items I’ve purchased, and prices are extremely reasonable …. so definitely check it out when you get a chance!

I’m still in a fantasy frame of mind … and would like to show you a skin from one of the Fantasy Faire exhibitors that I didn’t have time to blog actually during the faire (but you can still visit her store!) This interesting character skin is from Tribal Soul, a store with a variety of fantasy avatars in different traditions. My favorite was this albino skin. It is a very light skin, tho’ not really as light as the undead
You could take this skin a whole host of different directions — but I went for a brooding fairy kind of look
The completely awesome suit is from Silent Sparrow — and, as always, I marvel at the gorgeous textures on these pieces. I’ve had this suit in my inventory for some time, but if you are a member of the VIP group at Silent Sparrow, you can get ...

Well, friends — Fantasy Faire may be over, but I still have a few things from the fair to show you, and … I’ve been expanding my horizons a little bit outside of the fair recently. Although you haven’t seen a whole lot of it on this blog, I have a fondness and a fascination for what I might call “creating character” in Second Life. When I first started second life, I had every intention of being a fairy — hence the somewhat fanciful name. Circumstances and friendships have taken me in a lot of different directions, but my love of story has always remained. Every time I see an interesting, not-quite-so-ordinary avatar, I wonder “what is their story?” I admire anything that takes me into that story realm, from the slightly quirky fashionista, all the way thru the ...

This is the final weekend at the Fantasy Faire, and I’ve had such a fantastic time blogging some of the pieces for you. I have also met some really terrific creators, and have enjoyed working with them. One of the wonderful things about a fair of any kind is making a discovery of something completely new to you. It has been my great pleasure to discover the fantasy art of real life artist J. Matthew Root, and to meet his SL counterpart, artist and creator, Marcus Inkpen. I ran across Marcus in his booth during the blogger preview, where he patiently talked to me even though he was trying to finish up things for the launch of the faire — thank you for your kindness, Markus
Markus is the artist of the painting in the picture, titled Discovery. I couldn’t resist the redhead
But — I don’t think there ...

One of the wonderous things about the Fantasy Faire, and indeed SL itself, is the sense of play and fantasy, and of doing “impossible” things in a way that fires the imagination. Today’s impossible thing is this adorable fairy hamster. This may, in fact, be the first time you’ve seen me as a non-humanoid … but, I’m thinking it won’t be the last! Fantasy Faire inspired me to try on the Tiny world. The tiny hamster AV is from ExtroVirtual, whose avatars I’ve admired for some time now. The outfit is from Lil Verse, which you can find on the Avatopia Sim of the Fantasy Faire. This is the debut of her pixie line. I especially love the the hair and wreath of roses … and the cute sound effect the wings make when you fly. If you get buzzed by a lavender hamster at the fair, it just might ...

Altho’ you obviously can’t see it in the picture, the helicopter blades are spinning, and the kitty’s tail and ears move … so a very dynamic little companion
The sculpts and textures on this piece are quite well done. The designer tells me he also as a tiny avatar with the same design… how cute would that be??
I’m also wearing the newest offering from Exodi … the Dael skin. This makeup was sent as a gift to the VIP group (fee to join), but is the same base skin as the completely free gift at WOE, which is available at the WOE store until April 30. Exodi is aiming for a summer release of the skin.

This week, its all about fantasy for me! The Fantasy Faire has already opened it gates, and I’m especially excited because this is my first one! (No — I’m not a newb…. I don’t know where I’ve been the last couple of years.) Fantasy of all kinds is one of the things SL does the best, and holds a place near and dear to my heart — so I’m thrilled to blog a few of the things that help us immerse ourselves in a fantasy world.
Today, I’ve gone a bit steampunkish — featuring this lovely gown from Spellbound. This is one of their RFL offerings, and you can find their booth on the Avatopia sim. I’m actually a huge collector of homes, decor and furnishings — this is my excuse to pretend it is purposeful
I want to start by showing you a really lovely piece that is being featured at the GREENE concept booth at the Home, Garden & Patio Expo. This authentic Japanese lantern is marvelously detailed — yet comes in at only 3 prims! On my last foray into the Pose Fair, I picked up a new and terrific set of poses from Poseur — “Lush Kitten”. This is a wonderfully made set of pin-up style poses that I couldn’t resist using with my new kitty look!
All the newness in the outfit today is from Dreams. The collar and shirt are from a whole fish themed set that you can actually FISH for at the Dreams store (or, if you’re impatient, you can buy it there as well). The adorable neko ears and tail are actually not quite out yet … but are absolutely adorable. What you can’t see is the vibrant motion of these parts. Dark Mouse has been putting out some really stunning work lately, and these are no exception. I’m looking forward to seeing the new release!
I also want to draw your attention to this fabulous corset from Dreams. This is a softer-looking corset, with a ribbed fabric. I think you could easily dress it up or dress it down. I’m wearing green, of course, to go with the earrings, and the fun makeup for Tuli’s Eva skin… but ...

Today is the last day to pick up GREENE concept’s terrific “Spruce Up Your Space” special deal. I love this whole package — but my favorite part has to be the couch. Two years ago, on a whim, I opened my first Magpie store — a modest 7 prim cart at LVS (you can see photos of that at the end of the post). I primarily did it because I wanted to learn how it was that people sold things in SL — how you made a vendor, how you rented commercial space. I’m a learn-by-doing kind of girl
. Shortly after that, I picked up a parcel on a terrific sim I had been haunting, Juicy, and opened a main store there. (Again, you can see it in the picture below — you can’t even recognize Juicy, can you?!) Because of time constraints, my business has been on a slow-growth model … but it has pleased me enormously to build it up a little at a time — and I’ve grown, made tremendous friends, and had great fun along the way.

When my close friend and muse, Peter Stindberg, posted his most recent, terrific photo, I was inspired to pull out one of my newer latex acquisitions. Although my photo is not nearly so artistic as his, it does give me a great chance to talk about the fashion!
Both of our outfits (minus his jacket) are from Graves, one of the finest makers of latex clothing that I’ve encountered on the grid. Latex textures can be very tricky — but Graves does it right, and these look wonderfully realistic. The sets are also extremely wearable, with lots of layering options.
