I’d like to blame Violet Voltaire for this massively pastel outfit. She saw the glory that was the double rainbow meme, and decided to do her own paeon to it in a jewelry set. Ah, bittersweet day! I’m kissing my daughter goodbye this morning, she’s heading off on a trip with her grandfather for a week. At five, I cried for my parents every night when this happened to me. I’m wearing a bevy of new things this morning! Absolutely brand new is this dress by Scribble, the Seven Day Dress. It comes with three kinds of skirt, and I love the quirky silhouette and gauzy overskirt. Next, I am adorned with a brand new tattoo from HUZ. This might be my favorite tattoo of his — the old-fashioned heart is joined by an 8-balls and flames, and a random interesting face in the middle of the back. It looks like some of my coworkers! OMG, it’s an actual fashion blog post for a change. (Also, I’m not sure what I’m going to do when pretty white Blur is no longer around for photography.) Two notable new things in my outfit today. First, a lovely little dress from Elate!. Elate! dresses are ultimately flexible, simple and pretty, so I never fail to wear it with a slightly inhuman avatar. Second, ~silentsparrow~ has a freaking adorable group gift out in the shop right now. A set of cute little bowler hats with birds on ‘em, in a variety of colors. Elu posted this link to Jewel Undercover on plurk just now. I watched it through and was struck by a comment someone from the crowd made. “At first I thought she was kind of homely, until she started dancing and singing all sexy…” So perhaps personality outshines appearance, sometimes? Maybe? … I thought about this in terms of Second Life, and how plurk sometimes exposes the personality behind the nice pretty image on the screen. Including mine, of course! Gatcha gatcha everywhere… I ran into the Den-Dou girl’s pack II gatcha while out shopping at DP**yumyum the other day, and immediately got one of my favorite whimsical skintones, this silver one. If I could have silver skin in real life, I totally would. Other cool things include the Gos Espadrilles with Gos’s usual, seductive plethora of color jars. I like that the toe is covered, and I like being able to play with the textures of the laces, toe, seam and ribbon all seperately. I’m having a quiet Fourth so far, blogging in-between cleaning house and doing errands with the child. I feel the summer doldroms pretty fiercely, and I’m questioning my SL raison d’etre this week. Whenever I lose someone from my SLife I pause and think about why I play this game. I think ultimately it’s a place that spawns creativity — a land where we can be God-like creatures and create and destroy with an easy sense of detachment, because none of it impacts us physically. Much. I remember watching Aisuru Reiko destroying a house, sitting on a part of it and getting rocketted high, high into the air, falling somewhere… Maybe it’s time for a paradigm change for me too, blow it all up and redefine the game again.

Disjointed thoughts, iPhone-riffic day. It’s late and I’m sleepy and the summer sun is giving us a respite by being on the other side of the earth. I’m too much in Real Life to think about Second Life today (there was a certain product launch at my store), but I snuck in and photographed a little. Hm. Nuff said.

A few days ago, hyasynth was auctioned off for charity. Part of the auction involved this dress, a gorgeous sweep of white fabric and corsetry. I love the balance of long skirt and tight torso and flowing sleeve, I spent a while playing with the lines of the dress in photos last night. I love it when clothing evokes a mood or a character, and the color and construction of this one very definitely created someone in my head. She’s an angel trapped in a pit! Miss Katat0nik Pigeon

It’s summertime with a vengeance. Outside, the air is strobing with warring fronts of weather — the warm and cold are duking it out high in the atmosphere, and the scorching heat of the afternoon gives way to torrential rain. Monsoon time in Florida, and the parks are full of wet, lobster-colored tourists who all troop into my store when the rain comes.

The launch of a certain new phone is this week. Thursday, in fact. I spent several solid hours on the phone helping calm people down from their nervousness about it — a few asked what time in the morning they can come line up. The answer is: 6 AM. In SL, I am so very distracted that I stand looking blankly at my avatar and forget what I came in for. I think this is also due to summertime.

Bring on October please. OH ...

Tableau has a summer festival (see hair!) and my daughter has a ballet recital. I went, and it was a mass of people standing around uncertainly yet excitedly, waiting for things to happen — this applies to both events. Now we’re in a momentary lull before I try to gel my daughter’s short hair back until it’s as immovable as cement. The mixture of gel and Aqua Net is making me so nostalgic!
