The weather outside is frightful …  … umm isn’t that a song? eh. This post is alittle fashion and alittle music.  First let’s do the fashion.  I pulled out some of my ivory and creams along with my editting wand. Just like blacks, whites are insanely hard to match.  With alittle imagination and patience, the tones can blend well. 

The extra long Armidi sweater is such a classic for a pair of white jeans.  The catch is I tinted the  chalk white GLAM jeans to a hazy yellow.  Amazing, it matches the cream of the sweater. 

For the boots, it was more difficult.  Sure, my inventory was a few white boots but not one pair ivory. Do they exist? (Designers, can we have cream knee-high boots?) Since boots are mod, easy win just  tint them!  What did amazing match without the editing is the hat.  Rare does that happen.  Just a few clicks, white hat.  I am really liking this long hair too with the wispy sides around the scripted hat.

I’ve never been a big fan of red lipped skins. As many of us have seen and now get to experience, BEBAE has released a new skin collection. (The skin review is pending.) The lip color really leaps off the white behind the dark hair.

With the close of Winterfaire, some of the snowy sims are reverting back to green.  Bouncing from place to place, it dawns on me that Edloe is still winter white.  It made for a great background for my pic.  Also, its home to many podcasters, fashion gurus and plain ol’ great people.  Crap Mariner is the sim owner and, I guess you could call him, the master mind behind Tunes in SL. 

Don’t know what Tunes in SL project is? Make some room for me under your rock. I utterly failed at trying to sum up this growing venture… so here’s the quick and easy line from the site: “This gallery was created to give people an easy way to support live musicians in Second Life.”

The site has a ton of useful information on how to support live music in SL, join the galleries if you’re an artist and how be apart of it all as a venue owner.  Just check it out to see this and all the artists currently listed. Edloe is just one of the three sims hosting the artist galleries.  Head on over to the gallery on Edloe to learn more and browse.

Next time you are in SL, head on over to a live music event.  They are very easy to find using the “Events” tab in search.  Even joining the various groups and specific artists groups will surely lead you to a concert or two. If you haven’t been ever to a show, IM me - we will go together!

The delectable Io Zeno recently sent me scurrying off to Reasonable Desires, after stunning the New Year’s Eve assembly with one of their lovely costumes.

RD is one of those places I’ve heard about, but never seemed interested enough in to meander over and check them out.

Well, that was silly of me.  They really do have some great costumes and lingerie, and you can’t argue with the prices.

This getup, called “Burlesque,” comes in just about any color you could want.

At last my world is getting back to its normal, routine state. As much as I truly love the holidays, I’m also happy to come back down to rest on the ground again. I do still have magical winter weather on my mind — because in SL I can enjoy the beauty without the discomfort!

Adam n Eve is having a photo contest on their beautiful Artis Natur sim to celebrate the winter season there. Since one of my new year’s resolutions is to get out more, I jumped at the chance/excuse/inspiration to get myself back to blogging. This is truly a lovely sim, and I enjoyed walking around. I even managed to run into a newbie that I was able to direct to some helpful resources. (I always wonder how they find their way to sims like this without a clue about what they are doing — but he’s hopefully on the right track now). The sim is switching over to Spring after Jan. 31st, so be sure to check it out before then if you want to enjoy the sparkling winter landscape.

I have been doing photo contests for a while. Always found them to be a good source of free advertising and excellent practice for my business. Plus they are usually just fun. Rarely do I ask for votes, I figure if people like the picture they would vote for it, right? Oddly enough I found that isn’t the case, I had heard rumors that Photo Contests are rigged, that there is no real chance in winning them. I thought I would go out and see for myself.

In the Month of December I entered three Photo Contests. They were sponsored by Incantations, Oleander Island and Bumblebee Photography. All had different themes requiring different styles of Photographs. The places and Themes are listed below with the attached photograph:

All three contests were ran fairly and the owners of them good, ethical people. On the other hand, the participants have stooped to some low ground to gain votes. I have witnessed entrants go to Noob Island and pay Newbies to come vote for their pictures. Teleport them to the spot and have them vote and then pay them. As we all know being new means you do not always understand how to IM someone, I have seen newcomers ask in open chat if they get paid now. Those people were reported to the owners of the contests and they were dealt with appropriately.

In the end I found that these contests are a fun way to get your face out there, but they are more of a popularity contest than anything. The ones who usually win are the ones with the longest friend’s lists. I only won one contest. The one that was hosted by Carmen Gray of Oleander Island; hers is for http://www.drivebyagony.net, an online charity that helps keep the inner city areas of Los Angeles Safe.

Carmen runs an amazing contest, the first prize being 20,000L which in real money is around $75.00 US. Carmen’s contest is by far the most unique I have come by. It does not benefit the land she owns or her self personally; it benefits a charity she started after losing 2 sons in the course of a year to drive-by shootings. She does not want another parent to feel the agony of having their loved one ripped from them in an act of violence. I believe it is an amazing thing she does for her community and I am honored to be a part of raising money for her cause.

But enough of me plugging Oleander Island; I think if you research a contest and the owners, remember that “if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is” and know the difference between a judged and a pay contest you will be fine. By the by, a judged contest has judges… a pay contest does not, it is usually based either on amount of money raised by your photo or how many votes you accumulate, or in some instances… both. But just remember to not take it so seriously, it is for fun and well, people see how hot you really are and sometimes, that’s the best prize of all.

As the Saiyge Gowns developed, magic built around Oubliette and the Fates (or perhaps the Graces) whipped up discussions about collaborative works and how wonderful it might be to bounce inspiration and ideas off other like-minded creatives…

I embraced the idea of a complementary set of jewels for this Gown with a great lack of social decorum and much gleeful squealing, instead. I swear I turned a lovely shade of puce holding my breath… waiting to see what Saiyge Lotus - Balderdash designer and architect - dreamed up.

And she did not disappoint.

She has created a delicate strand of pearlescent seeds, interspersed with gemstones and presented in a gentle byzantine style. The necklace hits appropriately on the collarbone, emphasizing the decolletage presented by the Gown.

It sits well, without the static indifference of some neck pieces, which either stick out too far in front, or sink into your shoulders when pursuing the perfect fit. You can almost feel the subtle weight of the beads, falling around your avatar’s throat.

Enhancing that effect is the pretty accent which brushes down the back of the neck, adding something extra to the design. The piece has a soft glow, and the gems offer a depth of texture reminiscent of the real thing.

To dress the earlobes of your Second Life self, Saiyge has included a set of earrings, using the same pearlescent beads and gemstones, working them into tiny, intricate echoes of the necklace itself. Each set is sold with the earrings included and must be seen to truly appreciate their detail. And.. you have a choice of 8 luscious colors.

Now if you’ll excuse me… Spring has sprung on Oubliette, and with random rain showers par for the course on these beautiful grounds, I must hurry indoors or risk sporting a hairdo like a golliwog.
